Sending group SMS messages

Send group SMS messages
Create groups from your contacts and send mass messages

Text messages – or SMS – have long been handy ways to communicate with friends and family. One of the great things about modern texting is the ability to send a message to more than one person at a time. This is wonderful if you are organising an event or need to quickly get a message out to as many people as possible.

Although you can do this with Android’s in-built messenger, the GroupMe app is far easier, especially if you regularly send to one particular group.

GroupMe Send batch text messages

1: Using Android Message
If you want to send a single text message to a group of people, you can use Android’s built-in Message app. All you have to do is type the number or name of contacts into the Contact box, separated by a comma, as shown in the screengrab above, and away you go.

2: Using GroupMe
Unfortunately the messaging app doesn’t let you select a pre-defined group. The GroupMe app solves this problem and can be downloaded for free. Once you have signed up, you are ready to get started. Tap the large green button and select Start a Group.

3: Getting started
Give the group a name – we’ve chosen Mates – and then tap on the blue person icon to search through your contacts and add them to the group, before pressing Start. Your group will be created and then you will be taken to the screen on which you can start messaging.

4: Send a message
Type a message into the box at the bottom of the screen, pressing Send when you are finished. This will send your message to your specified group. Any replies will be shown within the GroupMe app in a series of bubbles so you can easily follow the conversation.

Getting to grips with Google Talk
Instant message your friends and family and more

All of your Google Talk contacts will be shown on the main screen. You’ll see at a glance who is available and who is not. Click on someone who is available to chat to get a conversation started.

Messages can be typed in the box at the bottom. These appear in the main window with the recipient able to add comments that appear in a similar fashion to other messaging apps.

If one of your friends is not available on Google Talk, you can send an invite and, should they accept, they will be added to your list, ready for a future conversation via this ingenious little app.
