Home-Screen Bookmarks

Place links to your favourite websites on your home screen for easy access Apps don’t exist for every purpose… at least not yet. Often you will have a favourite website that you constantly access and which has no app equivalent. Maybe you check a particular astrologer each day or you have a specific niche news site that you must look at regularly. In the absence of an app, you can simply create a shortcut icon on your home screen instead.

It’s a simple process that requires you to find the page you want, create a bookmark and then add it to the home screen. The icons are the standard bookmark ones, but some webpages have embedded icons in their code – if this is the case, then this image will show instead. When you press on the bookmark, it fires up the browser and you can read away.

1: Browsing the web
Browse the internet using your Android device’s web browser. When you see a website that you want to save, press Menu. Select More and then tap ‘Add bookmark’. This will add the bookmark to your browser’s Bookmarks section.

2: Select the bookmark
Open the browser’s bookmarks screen by pressing Menu>Bookmarks. You’ll see three tabs across the top: Bookmarks, Most Visited and History. Make sure the Bookmarks tab is highlighted, then press and hold the bookmark you wish to have on your screen.

3: Add the bookmark
You’ll see a menu. Select ‘Add shortcut to Home’. Go back to your home screen, you’ll see that an icon has been added – when pressed, this will take you straight to the site you have chosen. If you ever want to delete it, hold the icon and drag it to the trash.

Group your apps into folders
Group apps together so you will be able to find the one you want more easily

Tap and hold your home screen and a pop-up menu will appear. Tap Folders and you’ll be asked to select a folder type. Folders can be created for contacts, or you can choose one to group your apps into different categories.

We’ve selected a New Folder. This has now appeared in a former gap on our home screen. If you change your mind, tap and hold the folder and a trash can will appear at the bottom of the screen; just drag it to the bin.

Rename your folder to suit its content. To do so, open the folder and tap its header, then type in a name. You can now add apps. Tap and hold down on an app. It will appear on the home screen; now drag the icon into your new folder.

You can add as many folders as you wish, as long as they don’t go over your phone’s home screen limit. In addition, the Starred Contacts folder option enables you to store your most used numbers together.
